Getting a late start, heading for an initial target of Atchison, KS |
test |
You guys should've went N that cell coming into Custer CO, OK is spinning like a top! |
Henrietta, TX is where I got that softball size hail last time I was there!!! |
cells coming into Jackson CO, OK are starting to intensify and once they hit those better back SFC winds they are going to explode! |
SFC winds where your at suck, you need to get N and E!!! |
I would start heading N to NE winds and moisture looking better for tornadic activity! |
Looks like cell up in Custer CO could make a tornado, SFC winds are backing into it, and it is holding together... |
I think as storms head E your SFC wind fields will be better as far as bringing moist gulf in once SLLJ kicks in! |
Headed to Dallas, TX for the night for an Easter Sunday Chase. I am chasing today with Corey Sloan. We will update our target later this evening. |
Myself, Corey Sloan and Andy Woods will be targeting the Coffeyville KS to Miami, OK area. Because of work obligations, will live the Cameron, MO area around 3 PM for the late show this evening. |
with Chris Rice when he saw the tornado N of Beatrice..we were 2 to 3 N of him and saw ground action 100 yards off Hwy 77...also had dirt, corn stalks and other small debris lifting to sky and falling back down! |
Looking to possibly chase Sunday and Monday of this week, stay tuned as further model runs comeout |
Corey Sloan and I will be targeting the Wichita to Eldorado area as of right now. We will be checking data throughout the day to see if are target shifts any. I will be leaving Cameron, MO around 330PM. Also will have duplicate feed on chasertv.com as well. I will be updating later today. |

Heading back from Ft. Worth TESSA. |
Heading to Joplin and readjust from there |
test |
Going to position near Beatrice, NE and wait for cells firing near Concordia, KS. Running copilot for Scott Bell. I will be tracking under him on spotternetwork.org. We will try to get the streaming up a little later. For now, we are directly behind Chris Rice. |
TARGET ADJUSTED: Moving closer to I-29. Area is more capped, 700mb temps 12-14C range but feel it is negligible and can be broken. Parameters are better per NAM and RUC NE of us..but we are going to play the middle of the line that is forming NE of KCNK and Dennison, IA...going to look at more data when we get to I-29....Corey |
Chasing with Corey Sloan today. Target is Atlantic, IA area. CAPE, EHI, STP as well as LCL / LFC look good for supercells. Expect initiation in the 19Z to 21Z time frame. |
Plan for the day is to hang close to 36 Hwy near Marysville KS. Storm motions of 50-70MPH will make these storms non chaseable today. We will intercept the storms as they move by and we will adjust our position. This is a Particularly Dangerous Situation. Please everybody pay attention to your surroundings. Having difficulties streaming but we will try to work that out as time allows. Media: My number is available through spotternetwork or Chris Rice. Everybody please be safe today. |
Wasnt going to chase today but here we go. Going to try to intercept cell near Smithville, MO. No cam today, do not have it with me. Steve |
I think I wil set this one out storms are initiating near I 35 and moving rapidly east into unfriendly chasing territory. Looks like middle of next week for the next GOOD chase opportunity. Check back here for my forecast. |
Had absolutely no plans to chase today but its literally in my back yard so Im going to go out just a little ways to see whats going on here locally. Still a little tired from the long drive home last night. Flying solo today. |
We spotted a tornado 5 miles north of Bellvue KS. We were unable to get good pics of it due to location in relation to the tornado. Currently setting in Heborn NE waiting for the storm to pass over. Currently 10 miles east of Heborn tornados reported and are most likely rain wrapped. We did get some killer lightning shots though. |
Ok we have changed our minds a little bit, but we are still focusing in on the general area of Geneeva, Nebraska area. we will drive to York and look at data and then form a plan. We are currently on the move and Betsy is navigating. We will update in a little bit!!!! |
Target 5/29/08 Belleville, KS I will be getting a late start today so this may skew my target just a bit. I will be leaving work here at 1PM and heading west on 36 HWY. Will adjust area and look at data as we approach Belleville. My wife will be copilot today. |
Would not be surprised to see this area go at least medium risk per the SPC and extend into N Central KS. |
> 5/29/08 CHASE TARGET AREA: York, NE to Norfolk, NE 24Hrs prior to event. This target area is a little broad at this point. Overnight convection may alter target somewhat so I will stick with this broad area for now. I will refine target tomorrow morning. This area looks best for instability and gives me good road options. Check back here for refinement of forecast |

headed to tornado warned cell in greensburg |
Initial target is Greensburg. Will reveiw data then and adjust from there. Trevor is co-pilot today. |
I will be running with Chris today riding shotgun. Check his site today for further updates. |
headed east from Salina, calling it a day.... |
nasty cell just to our south right now...expecting a tor warn soon...new meso out indicates linear mode is transitioning to more discrete supercells w/ long trac violent tornadoes...Corey |
headed to Salina now...trying to intercept sup cell SE of here producing a large, violent tornado with damage and injuries in and around Kiowa Co KS, near Greensburg |
saw good rotation and funnels near Ness City....Chris was NW of us and saw two tornadoes at one time....same storm produced a large tornado that was being tracked by NWS meteorologists and other chasers |
back in Hays now...headed east to Salina to get some chow |
large tornado nw of Hays...we are SE of it.....dark and hard to see |
E of Ness City, KS...tor warned..decent rotation to our SW with a nice inflow notch on GRLevel 3....looking SW with camera |
sorry about the glitch..we hit a big dip in the road |
headed to Ness City...large tornado reported by chasers with this cell and large hail |
on a LOT of supercells with nice rotation...no tubes yet, but we are close...moving to get east of a large sup just to our SW! Corey |
Camera is streaming now..should be working all afternoon now...just north of Great Bend...CU starting to form W of DDC....Corey |
Headed to Great Bend KS....look at data there. RUC at DDC is unbelievable at 0Z....potential for a prolific tornado outbreak in the plains...think 1 or 2 counties N of I-70 will be out of play because of morning convection....DDC to Hays looks like the best play right now....Corey |
Jct. City, KS now...data still looks good for Russell area, maybe SW of there, setup looks same as yesterday....big tornado potential...chasing with Corey Sloan, going to hook up with Chris Rice in western KS |
Headed to Hays, KS to look at more data, RUC parameters for Russell / Hill City our amazing. |
Will not be chasing tomorrow because of work committments but I will be out from Friday on in KS and NE. Check back here for my forecasts. |
Pseudo Chase Target 5/12/08 Henryetta, OK This WOULD be my target if I was able to chase today. Stay tuned to Chris's cam today as he is heading south to his initial target of Joplin, MO. I will be helping him with nowcasting support today because of prior committments. |
Chase Target 5/10/08 Fort Smith Arkansas Will be cochasing with Chris Rice today. Will be blogging from his chase site. Check his camera for details later today. |
Headed home. Storms fired near DDC, one was tor warned but storms began to fall apart as they reached Wichita...surface parameters were favorable, but upper level support was lacking. Took a gamble and played the south end of the mdt area and busted. Nice structure, missed a good shelf cloud per StormTrack discussion. Some lightning...got a personal visit from the Florence, KS PD...no jail for us, but the offer was made...LOL....briefed him on storm chasing. |
S. of Herrington trying to keep from core punching the cell to our west...svr wx statement on it now |
Headed for Hutchinson to look at data. Tor warned cell to the W of Hutchionson |
5-6-08: Target Area: Russell/Concordia Primary threats seem to be large hail/high winds with an isolated tornado threat. As storms initiate, they should move into a warm/moist environment. Sig Tornado Parameters also support this. Will depart Osborn MO by 4pm. |
Post Storm Update 5-1-08: Target was between Eureka and Fredonia KS. Stayed in Fredonia KS most of that evening as cell kept firing and rapidly intensifying to our SW. Numerous tornado warned cells were within our location. Reported several wall clouds and funnel clouds although no tornados. Check back here as Wednesday 5-7-08 as this looks like the best chance for severe weather in the SE KS and NE OK area. Check back here for refinements to my forecast. Thanks for viewing. |
Watching for storms to the sw of our location staying near a north south road to keep our options open |
Ran into discovery channel crew and outlaw chasers at Neodesha waiting for initiation Mesoscale discussion has just been issued for this area. |
